Never thought you'd see the words "Harley" and "cheap" in the same sentence, did you? Well, I'm here to tell you that it can be done! "How?!" you say. "I didn't order my 105th anniversary tickets and the last remaining hotel rooms within a 50 mile radius of Milwaukee are now $500.00 a night!" No problem. Other communities close by have hopped on the bandwagon and organized motorcycle events to ride on the coattails of the big one in Milwaukee.
One that looks real promising is Weekend In Waukesha. Weekend in Waukesha is a four-day festival to be held in the Historic Downtown Waukesha area August 28th through August 31st, in conjunction with the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee. It's being sponsored by the Waukesha businesses along with a couple of the Harley dealerships from the area. Weekend in Waukesha boasts live music from nationally-known bands. Providing a diverse range of styles – including classic rock, rock, country and Hispanic-themed music. It will also showcase several motorycle events including police drill motorcycle teams, motorcycle exhibitions, an antique bike show, Premier Class – Open Invitational custom bike show, Sunday morning biker mass service, a retail vendor mall, a museum exhibit and classic motorcycle movies at the civic theater. Food and beverage will be available throughout the downtown (with what they're boasting will be the most affordable beer prices in the area). And just how much for all these attractions and nationally-known bands? FREE! Yes, that's what I said. FREE!
OK, so now that the entertainment is covered you may be asking yourself, "But where will I stay D-Day?!?" You probably all know that I would love to have you crash at my place but unfortunately, Casa La D-Day just isn't big enough. So, how about a place called Hog Haven? They've turned the Washington County Fair Park into the biggest biker campgrounds you'll see outside of Sturgis. It's a beautiful 133 acre park with great facilities. The cost for staying all 5 nights will only run you $150.00 if you're a HOG member or $250.00 if you're a non-member. And Lynyrd Skynyrd will be rocking the campgrounds on Wednesday August 27th. "How much to see Lynyrd Skynyrd," you say? FREE with your paid camping fee. Yes, that's what I said. FREE!
As you can see, the big weekend here can be done pretty cheaply. So, what's your excuse now for not coming to party with the rest of us???

Oh, wow! I wish I had a job, so I could take vacation time to go! Seriously, if I was still working, we'd be there with those kind of prices! Damn!
Weekend in Waukesha sounds like it will be awesome! Wish I lived a little closer, so we could go!
I dunno? Let me think about it.
Yeah, Dave, what's our excuse?
As you know, Blackstone Joker, Wonder Wendy, Action Jackson, and a party of favorites will be rocking Hog Haven this year. The place will never be the same afterwards. Dave and BB, get your asses out there and hang with us!
Wow! Due to work, this year is out, but next year is on the horizon. Thanks for the info, Dean.
Oh, Joker, I wish. :(
Unfortunately, all my spare tim has been spoken for long ago for the rest of the year. Would love to go though.
I would love to check out some of these smaller events eventually, thanks for sharing this info! I just got into motorcycles recently working for Progressive Motorcycle Insurance, and it’s really awesome how passionate people are about their bikes. If you’re going to be at Sturgis this year, we’re sponsoring Thunder Road! You can get a coupon for a free t-shirt custom designed by Sucker Punch Sallys by hitting http://motorcycle.progressive.com/motorcycle-rallies-events.aspx - print the coupon and bring it to our booth at Sturgis for your free shirt, and from there you’ll have a chance to win a new bike also designed for Progressive by Sucker Punch Sallys.
Hope I haven’t overstepped any bounds by letting you know about this directly, but figured it’s something a lot of you might be interested in. Email me at gia.progressive@gmail.com if you want further info!
Ride safe,
